Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 cup yellow onion, diced
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1 cup green bell pepper, diced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 cup spinach, chopped
- 1/2 cup black olives
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella
- 1/4 cup turkey pepperoni
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes, for garnish (optional)
- Freshly chopped parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F. Place a baking sheet inside to keep warm before use.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with olive oil. Add the diced onion and green bell peppers, and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened. Add in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef into the pan, using a wooden spoon to break the meat up. Cook until browned all the way through, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if needed.
- Stir in all of the seasonings, tomato paste, and marinara sauce. Mix everything together until well-combined, then add the chopped spinach and black olives. Stir and cook for another 1 to 2 minutes until the spinach has wilted down into the sauce.
- Divide equal amounts of the meat sauce mixture into 4 individual-sized oven-safe bowls (20-25 oz bowls). Top with mozzarella and pepperonis. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and arrange the bowls carefully on top. Return to the oven and bake for about 8 to 12 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
- Remove the pan from the oven and let the pizza bowls stand for 5 minutes before serving immediately. Garnish with red pepper flakes and chopped parsley if desired.
