Description

A classic Open-Faced Tuna Sandwich made with flaky canned tuna in olive oil, crisp celery, fresh dill, a squeeze of bright lemon, and creamy mayo, all piled high on toasted bread with sharp cheddar and cool green lettuce. It’s a budget-friendly, 10-minute lunch that tastes anything but basic.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz canned tuna in olive oil
  • 1/4 cup celery, finely diced
  • 1/4 cup white onion, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/4 cup mayo
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • Handful of green lettuce, for serving
  • Toasted bread, for serving
  • Slices of sharp cheddar, for serving

Instructions

  1. Open up tuna and drain before placing into a medium bowl. Using a fork, flake the tuna and break apart until it just comes together.
  2. Into the same bowl with the tuna, add the celery, white onion, dill, lemon juice, mayo, salt, and pepper. Mix to combine. Store in the refrigerator to chill for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Place green lettuce on toasted bread, then top with a slice of sharp cheddar and the tuna salad mixture. Serve immediately and enjoy!
