Ingredients needed

  • Fresh limes: The key ingredient that gives the drink its signature tart and citrusy flavor. Use fresh, juicy ones with thin skin for the best results and cut a few extra to use as wedges or wheels when serving.
  • Granulated sugar: Sweetens the lime juice to balance the tartness.
  • Sweetened condensed milk: Adds a creamy texture and rich, milky sweetness that sets this lemonade apart.
  • 2 cups cold water: Helps blend and dilute the citrus for a smooth, drinkable consistency.
  • 2 cups ice: Makes the drink frosty and refreshing, perfect for summer sipping.

How to make Brazilian lemonade

Step 1: Wash and quarter the limes. No need to peel them—just cut and discard the tips of the limes, before cutting into quarters.

Step 2: Add to blender. Combine the lime pieces, sugar, sweetened condensed milk, cold water, and ice in a high-powered blender.

Step 3: Blend quickly. Pulse for about 10–15 seconds—just enough to extract the flavor without over-blending the bitter rind.

Step 4: Strain. Pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl or pitcher with a spout to remove the pulp and lime bits.

Step 5: Serve immediately. Brazilian lemonade is best enjoyed fresh while it’s still cold and frothy. Divide among ice-filled glasses and garnish with lime wedges or wheels, if desired.

Dairy-free variations

Want to enjoy this delicious Brazilian lemonade without dairy? No problem! Here are a couple of easy substitutions that will still give you that creamy texture and sweet flavor:

  • Sweetened condensed coconut milk – A fantastic 1:1 substitute for regular sweetened condensed milk. It adds a slight tropical twist while keeping the drink smooth and rich.
  • Dairy-free creamer + maple syrup or agave – Use an unsweetened dairy-free creamer (like oat, almond, or coconut) and add about 1–2 tablespoons of maple syrup or agave nectar for sweetness.
  • Full-fat canned coconut milk + sugar – For a rich and creamy version, use a few tablespoons of canned coconut milk along with sugar to taste.

Just blend and strain as you normally would. These options make it easy to keep this drink dairy-friendly without losing its signature taste!

Description

Cool, creamy, and refreshing – this Brazilian Lemonade (aka limonada) is made with fresh limes, sweetened condensed milk, and ice for the ultimate summer thirst-quencher. Quick, easy, and perfect for BBQs or poolside sipping!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 limes, scrubbed and washed, plus wedges for serving
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 7 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups cold water
  • 2 cups ice, plus more for serving

Instructions

  1. Cut and discard the tips of the limes before cutting into quarters.
  2. Pulse limes, sugar, sweetened condensed milk, water, and ice in a blender 5-8 times until everything is just combined and small pieces of lime rind still remain. Work in batches if blender is smaller and make sure not to pulverize limes or the drink will taste bitter.
  3. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a large pitcher or bowl, using the back of a spoon to push out as much liquid as possible. Discard any solids left behind.
  4. Divide the strained mixture between tall, ice-filled glasses, garnish with lime wedges or wheels if desired, and serve immediately.
